Pros & Cons

  • Hands down the people - PwC has such a culture that is unique compared to all other companies I interned at within the industry. I have been so lucky to have the most supportive team and make some lifelong friends so early in my career. I also love how much they support building the culture with social events - whether they be games nights, or simply drinks after work.
  • Work flexibility and free coffees. As well as the never-ending possibilities to expand my career.
  • Really steep learning curve, sophisticated training programs, and making friends when we joined the firm as a batch.
  • I really enjoy the culture of PwC. I feel that PwC is a supportive environment and I have been able to engage with lots of extra-curriculars during my time at PwC.
  • I am empowered to create a positive impact on my clients through the firm's collaborative working culture.
  • Gets really busy when the busy season comes.
  • Not all engagements are managed well
  • Probably the worst thing would be the cyclical nature of auditing (not really a company thing). Sometimes it can be a bit boring during the quieter periods.
  • During the busy season, working long hours however the team is always very supportive.
  • Personally, I've found that there are too many meetings both firm and team-based where that time could have been better spent

Working at a Big Four accounting firm will give me plenty of opportunities in the industry if I choose to go down that path. The promotion process is also very transparent so I know exactly when I will be promoted to Senior Associate, Manager etc. which I think is great. So knowing this progression, I feel motivated.

Corporate Social Responsibility
I think PwC is an ethical company and there are lots of different initiatives PwC has to work on CSR such as paid volunteering days, toy donations for Christmas etc., and opportunities for PwC managers and above to be on boards.

Culture
I find that PwC has a great culture. It is not hierarchal and I feel as though I can reach out for help to anyone at PwC if I were to need it. It is also good to have a larger grad group to go through CA with. I enjoy a more busy environment with lots of people and PwC definitely provides that for me. In fact, I often do not like working from home as I would rather go to work and be around others for motivation.

Office space is awesome - double monitors, great location in Barangaroo, cafe etc. The view is AMAZING, and we can dress for our day. Wish there were better free snacks though.

Recruitment
The interview arrangement is very considerate, can negotiate the date and time easily. And the recruitment team was very responsive. After receiving the offer, before onboarding, there were constant updates and introductory communications coming through, and I was very impressed by that.

Salary
Pay is ok but expected at my level. There will be plenty of opportunities for salary increases later on. I am also able to live on my salary. My partner and I both work and earn approximately the same amount of money. We are able to afford to rent a three-bedroom house in a good neighbourhood, with two good cars, and we still have money to put aside into savings and investments. So that is really all you could ask for. Very liveable salary. I got a small bonus this year which was also a nice treat.

Training
Happy with training. We have formal training (I'm doing Assurance 2 next week) and also informal training via Vantage (PwC online training) with lots of extra training we can do if we want to which I love. I have also commenced my CA which is being paid for by PwC.

Super flexible in terms of WFH and working in the office. Also pretty good when it comes to changes in hours, starting early to finish early and vice versa.

Sustainability
The company won't even give out merch at events to students now to reduce waste - instead, they give out free subscriptions to online tools to help with their development.
