Company is exceptional for inclusivity and diversity. I can't imagine it gets much better than this.

We always have lunch and learn sessions based around different minorities. I'm also in our LGBTQIA+ pride group.
Graduate, Melbourne - 18 Jul 2024
There are initiatives to hire people of the minority to make the workplace more diverse which I find a good initiative.

Most people are respectful to women but I've heard multiple inappropriate comments towards women at work and had an older man kiss me on the cheek at a work event. Very uncomfortable. Would like to hear more about what you're doing about disability inclusion.

There are programs in place that address these prevalent issues. In terms of dealing with the root cause of these, more needs to be done from top-down management. Contractors should be held to the same standard if they are working in the same office environment, and should be reprimanded accordingly.

Plenty of support for diversity - always hosting events/panels to explore and promote these issues.

Victoria's Big Build is really conscious of this so I think its quite good.

All teams I have been able to work in so far have been diverse and accepting of diversity.

The company does seem to care about diversity through its programs and hiring practices. I have felt supported as a woman even though the vast majority within my teams/field/department are men. There are people from very diverse backgrounds and experiences within the company. I am unsure about promotion pathways as it is rare to see women in middle management positions, but there is diversity of ethnicity at most levels (other than highest levels from what I have seen). For those that identify as lgbtqa+ I have only seen support and celebration.

There are clear pathways for women, ethnic minorities and LGBT members to enter the company. There are also strong support networks, reinforced by an industry-wide push.

Big emphasis on women working in transport and how we can support that

I feel like diversity is not equal across disciplines. I.e., You end up with some disciplines having overwhelming majority of males and others having overwhelming majority of females.

The project team actively monitors and incentivises diversity through different programs and initiatives.
Graduate, Melbourne - 26 Feb 2021
My company runs events and trainings to support and encourage diversity.

As most workplaces, the demographic of employees is probably majority of white Caucasians. Having said that, the project places a strong emphasis on Diversity and there are many support programs in place for employees. The project are also very accepting of personal views on religion, sexuality etc. It is highly unlikely that you would experience bullying or harassment in this workplace.

Incredible perks for maternity leave, transitioning leave, etc. as an outsider. It seems like there are systems in place but I don't have any experiences with them.
Graduate, Melbourne - 25 Feb 2021
Most grads in my intake were male (however the large number of male engineering applicants may have affected this result). Other minority groups seem well represented.
Graduate, Melbourne - 25 Feb 2021
There is active training against discrimination for all employees. The company plays a strong role in supporting an open and fair workplace.
Graduate, Melbourne - 25 Feb 2021
There are not a lot of women in the engineering and IT sectors, however, there are initiatives to address the gender imbalance. There are also initiatives looking at increasing indigenous participation, and GEN44 internship programs. There are also groups such as Bent Rail for LGBT staff.

What does your company do to attract applicants from less privileged backgrounds?
One example coming to mind is, for people who may have missed learning opportunities, there are pathways via a training academy run by the company (in fact this academy is open to the entire rail industry).

I know there is a program to employ refugees, but don't know a lot.
Graduate, Melbourne - 25 Feb 2021
The company has internship opportunities for immigrants. I think we also include diverse labour quotas within the project contract for disadvantaged communities.
Midlevel, Melbourne - 24 Feb 2021
There are internship programs for those from migrant backgrounds.

The graduate program gives all graduates a manager and a supervisor. Both can assist those from less privileged background in many ways and the business offers many programs (and contacts) to reach out for any help necessary.
