Major Road Projects Victoria (MRPV) was established to deliver a multi-billion-dollar pipeline of key road projects across Victoria, including new roads, road widenings, new bridges, and major freeway upgrades. MRPV manages complex and strategically important road projects from business case development through to completion connecting local communities and supporting Victoria's growing economy.
As part of the Summer Internship program, we are looking for multiple interns to join our growing team across various Victorian locations. The internship program aims to build the next generation of diverse and inclusive talent ready for careers in construction.
We are looking for interns in the following areas to join our growing teams:

The MRPV office locations for our Civil Interns will be in the following areas: Dandenong, Essendon Fields, Narre Warren, Traralgon, Geelong, and Melbourne CBD.
You'll learn about HR data and analytics, and gain insight into the data-driven approaches of HR. Support preparation, communication and maintenance of reports, presentations, and data findings with HR documents and data.
You'll support the team with initiatives to build a more diverse and inclusive workforce and supply chain to help build Victoria's roads.
Procurement - You'll help manage the purchase of goods and services required to support the operation of different projects. You'll learn about the relevant procurement guidelines and policies that Victorian Government agencies must abide by.
Commercial - You'll assist in supporting the commercial team in all aspects of commercial advice, this may include aiding in business case development, contract negotiations and procurement strategies.
You'll have the opportunity to learn about key IT areas, including information management, systems analysis, and project management.
Youโll support the team with technical studies, assist in the preparation, review and management of statutory materials, develop strong relationships, and liaise closely with relevant internal & external project stakeholders. Youโll also assist in planning and environmental monitoring and compliance, including site-based compliance as required with site visits.
As an intern at MRPV, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience related to your current studies. You'll be part of a team delivering a range of road projects, and you'll be able to see the impact of this work as you travel through the state each day.
The position will be for a fixed term period of up to 6 months. The internship will be on a full-time or part-time basis where hours will be flexible to suit your Uni timetable. If you are looking to get some hands-on experience in a supportive environment โ this is the role for you!
You do not need previous relevant experience to apply for this position - all you need is a positive attitude and a strong willingness to learn.
MRPVโs Internship Program aims to provide opportunities for students identifying with an underrepresented group/s who may otherwise face employment barriers.
You are currently studying a relevant undergraduate degree for the duration of the internship program (Febโ June 2023) AND have Australian working rights.
We try to give preference to students who are currently in their second to last or last years of study but welcome applications from all years.

I work on a couple of projects that are all from different aspects of the program. I am able to socialise myself in lots of different teams and areas of the program each day. Although I work at head office there is always an opportunity to go out for a site tour!
Auditing, filing tasks, compliance checks, design change checks
I spend most days organising hoarding for worksites, reviewing collateral, monitoring social media and assisting with stakeholder enquiries. I enjoy the work I'm doing but sometimes it can be a bit quiet, and I feel like there's not much for me to do.

Play your part in delivering $100 billion of major infrastructure projects, while gaining hands-on experience to develop your career.ย
The best thing about working at VICTORIAโS BIG BUILD is the type of work I get. I really enjoy the tasks given and feel like I am learning at a good pace.
Flexible hours, supportive culture.
The workplace environment and culture. As a graduate, leaders and managers go out of their way to guide you and welcome you to the team.
Plenty of opportunities to get out on site or into the community to participate in more hands-on work.
The support for development (both within company and outside) and flexibility given. Culture is overall great.
Lack of clarity around the role going in leading to misaligned expectations.
Uncertainty of being a project rather than a permanent organisation, so there is not a clear progression trajectory.
The workload can be quite inconsistent depending on the rotationโsome days you will be so busy, and others there will be nothing to do.
Limited opportunity to accept a full-time role within the organisation when the program was over.
As an engineer, limited hands-on experience on site
