We are searching for our very first cohort of interns here at the Level Crossing Removal Project (LXRP)!
Our brand new LXRP Internship Program is an immersive development experience that has been designed for anyone who is currently studying a tertiary qualification, or that has completed a tertiary qualification and hasn't managed to find a role in their chosen field of work.
The program will empower you, challenge you, and grow your skills so that you have a foot in the door when it comes time to kick off or sidestep into your career (woo hoo!) We are going to set you up for success and get you the experience you need to kick off the next step in your career journey.
Now onto the formalitiesโฆ
These positions are six (6) month fixed term contracts, working between 23 and 40 hours per week (depending on your availability). The annual salary for this position is $55,439 plus superannuation, pro rata. Commencing in October 2024 - you can expect to finish the program in March 2025 with all of the skills and expertise you need in your career toolbelt (and don't worry โฆ there will be a celebration to commemorate the occasion too).
The opportunity doesn't stop here! By the end of the six months, you'll be well-placed to apply for our Victoria's Big Build Graduate Program or an entry-level vacant position within LX.
We will be placing you into an established team here at LX and assigning you to a leader in the business that is set up and ready to help you get to where you need to be with your career development. With guidance and support, you will work closely with the broader team to:
You will also be assigned a buddy to support you as a peer throughout your time here - you can use them to bounce ideas off, chit chat to, or grab coffee with (it's up to you)! During the six months, you will receive career guidance and support so that you are ready to continue with your career in the corporate world. Yay!
We operate under hybrid working arrangements, which means you will be working between our network of offices and at your home. We will set you up with everything you need to work successfully in a hybrid capacity (i.e. phone, laptop, screens etc.). As an FYI - we tend to use office time for collaboration and fun stuff, and the home for the stuff that requires more concentration and deep thinking.
LXRP is an Equal Opportunity Employer, and as such we strongly encourage and welcome folks from minorities, women, the disabled, First Nations, and all other qualified applicants to apply.
At LXRP, we're not just removing level crossings, we are removing barriers and creating legacies for our communities for years to come. Inclusion is a priority for us, and we are committed to creating an employee community that reflects those in which we work.
Pre-register now and get notified once the application opens then follow the steps below.
If we've sparked your interest, feel free to submit your CV via the โapply now link. There will be some questions for you to answer in the application form, and as such you don't need to provide a cover letter or address the Key Selection Criteria at all. Simply submitting your CV and answering the questions in the form will suffice.
Following your application submission, and answering the questionnaire, the shortlisted applicants will then be invited to participate in a virtual assessment centre! This will involve a group activity and a quick one-on-one interview.
The words "assessment centre" can sound a bit scary, but really โฆ it's a chance for us to meet you all at once, you will get to meet a bunch of new people, and you can take part in a range of engaging virtual activities that we have designed (that will hopefully be lots of fun). We will ensure you have all the information you need to prepare and set yourself up to do well. If you don't have access to the equipment needed to attend a virtual assessment centre (ie. a laptop or smartphone with a webcam and stable internet) then please give Tara a call on the number at the bottom of this advertisement to discuss alternatives.
Our โpreferred candidates will be notified shortly after the assessment centres conclude, and we will then begin the background checking process.
If you have questions, concerns, or are feeling a bit nervous about the whole thing - give Tara McDonald (Senior Talent Acquisition Adviser) a call or connect with her on LinkedIn.
You can also have a confidential chat with Tara if you require any accessibility adjustments to ensure you perform at your best throughout the assessment process.
I work on a couple of projects that are all from different aspects of the program. I am able to socialise myself in lots of different teams and areas of the program each day. Although I work at head office there is always an opportunity to go out for a site tour!
Auditing, filing tasks, compliance checks, design change checks
I spend most days organising hoarding for worksites, reviewing collateral, monitoring social media and assisting with stakeholder enquiries. I enjoy the work I'm doing but sometimes it can be a bit quiet, and I feel like there's not much for me to do.

Play your part in delivering $100 billion of major infrastructure projects, while gaining hands-on experience to develop your career.ย
The best thing about working at VICTORIAโS BIG BUILD is the type of work I get. I really enjoy the tasks given and feel like I am learning at a good pace.
Flexible hours, supportive culture.
The workplace environment and culture. As a graduate, leaders and managers go out of their way to guide you and welcome you to the team.
Plenty of opportunities to get out on site or into the community to participate in more hands-on work.
The support for development (both within company and outside) and flexibility given. Culture is overall great.
Lack of clarity around the role going in leading to misaligned expectations.
Uncertainty of being a project rather than a permanent organisation, so there is not a clear progression trajectory.
The workload can be quite inconsistent depending on the rotationโsome days you will be so busy, and others there will be nothing to do.
Limited opportunity to accept a full-time role within the organisation when the program was over.
As an engineer, limited hands-on experience on site
