      About the Role

      As a Graduate Geotechnical Engineer you will be exposed to a variety of geotechnical tasks within the operations, working closely with a multidisciplinary team to ensure organisational goals are met. In addition, you will apply a mix of applied geology and engineering knowledge providing timely and safe solutions to meet the challenges of large scale mining production. You will be exposed to a variety of work duties which includes core logging, updating design statuses, instrumentation, QA/QC, rehabilitation of development, long term and short term mine plans. You will have the opportunity to work with experienced and qualified team members, who value an inclusive and cohesive working environment and who are truly passionate about what they do.

      As a part of your development, you will undertake numerical modelling and project work. With annual on-site training by Australian Centre for Geomechanics (ACG), Institute of Mine Seismology (IMS) and Map3D as well as hosting Regional Geomechanics conference every 6 months, you are really learning from the best, in the best environment.

      The successful applicant will have:

      • A Bachelor of Engineering (Geotechnical) or similar
      • Have graduated from university within the last 2 years

      Locations

      • Residential Mount Isa, North West Queensland.  Mount Isa Mines has both Copper and Zinc underground mines.  Mount Isa is a thriving city of 23,000 acting as a hub for regional business, transport, services and government in north-west Queensland.  With every sporting club you can think of, golf course, restaurants, gyms and movie theatre, there is always plenty to do.  Explore the region with some of the best fishing and camping locations right at your doorstep.
      • McArthur River, Northern Territory.  McArthur River Mine (MRM) produces zinc, lead and silver from an open cut mine. This is then processed and stored onsite before being transported to Loading Facility and shipped to our customers all over the world. Situated southeast of Darwin, McArthur River Mine (MRM) is a world-class zinc-lead mine with a long future ahead of it. Flying in and Out from Darwin, you spend your onsite time in a camp with a dining room, bar, gym, movie theatre, golf driving range, volleyball courts, cricket pitch, and swimming pool.
      • Cloncurry, North West Queensland.  At Ernest Henry Mining, the mining method is Sub-Level Caving.  Situated 150km from Mount Isa, and 38km from Cloncurry. Cloncurry is one of north-west Queensland’s agricultural and mining centres, with a population of just under 3000. As a social hub for the region Cloncurry is host to events including rodeos, races, cultural festivals, community markets and much more. The Ernest Henry Mining Village offers a wet and dry mess, well-equipped gymnasium, a swimming pool and sporting fields.
      • Townsville, North Queensland.  Located on the coast in tropical North Queensland, Glencore’s Townsville Operations encompass Copper Refineries Pty Ltd and Glencore Port Operations.  Our Townsville Operations mark the final link in Glencore’s fully integrated north Queensland supply chain, connecting the natural resources we produce with markets around the world.  Copper Refineries Pty Ltd is one the world’s leading electrolytic copper refineries, capable of producing 300,000 tonnes per year of premium-quality ISA brand LME Grade A copper cathode using Glencore’s proprietary IsaKIDD refining process. Glencore Port Operations at the Port of Townsville is the export gateway for our north Queensland products.
      • Cobar, New South Wales.  CSA Mine is an underground copper mine located in Cobar, Central Western NSW.  Home to approximately 4,647 people, the town features modern amenities including first class education, health and social facilities. With an area of 45,609 square kilometres, the Shire is almost the same size as the whole of Tasmania.
