About the program

As an intern at Treasury, you will work on challenging and impactful policies that help shape the Australian economic landscape.

You will also contribute to the broader work of the department.

Through real work opportunities our program provides you with the chance to:

Eligibility

To be eligible for Treasury’s Internship Program, you must meet the following requirements:

  • be an Australian citizen
  • are currently enrolled at university in your penultimate year, or final year of studies, and you want to pursue an honours, masters or PhD in:
    • economics
    • legal
    • data
    • statistics or
    • demography studies
  • performed well over the course of your studies
  • be willing to:
    • complete the internship placement at Treasury in either Canberra, Sydney or Melbourne
    • obtain and maintain a valid Australian Government security clearance on acceptance into the program
    • undergo any police, character, health or other checks required.

Step 1: Check your eligibility

Step 2: Submit your application

If you meet the criteria, your application must include:

  • your resume
  • your current academic transcript
  • a response to the application question.

Step 3: Online video and reference check

If you're shortlisted, we’ll invite you to submit a video responding to the supplied questions.

Following review of your video, we may contact your referees.

When selecting your referees, please nominate a referee who can comment on your work, skills and capabilities as a team member.

Step 4: Informal interview

We may invite you to participate in an informal virtual interview.

Step 5: Outcomes advised

We will offer successful candidates an intern position in a division in Treasury.

Placements will be determined closer to commencement of the Treasury Internship Program, with the start date to be negotiated subject to security clearance outcomes.

If you're unsuccessful you will have the opportunity to request feedback on your application.
