We had graduate trainings which were somewhat useful. The most useful trainings I have been to are externally run which your area pays for. These have been specific to my job - for example employment law.

As graduates we have been offered comprehensive training in workplace skills like writing and communicating with colleagues, and also valuable career skills like how to manage and approach performance discussions and how to manage upwards.

Throughout the graduate program there have been a number of training programs available to the graduates. These included: essential writing in the APS, constructive conversations with managers, and Indigenous cultural awareness training.

Various e-learning modules. Some face to face training. Average in quality. Workshop on writing for the APS was most beneficial. Learnt to write succinctly, in simple language.

Writing courses, specialist program training like Qlik Sense and SAS. Helps with foundational skills, but most of the learning is on the job.

As graduate, we have quite a lot of training about government structure, how to be a good APS officer, writing, security awareness, system training. So generally all the basic skills you need to understand how to work for government properly.
