The Role
The Graduate Accountant reports to and plays a right-hand role to the Finance Manager, primarily assisting with the preparation of financial reports for the Finance Manager and Chief Financial Officer.

This is a busy and varied role with the opportunity to work across all areas of financial compliance including financial statements and tax, reconciliation of accounts and records (balance sheet, profit & loss, bank accounts), management reporting produced both internally and externally, and the consolidation of financial statements (cash flow reporting, budget reporting, etc). 

The Graduate Accountant will also assist with special finance projects and processes, review the work of other finance staff, and assist with complex matters escalated by other staff. 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with the preparation of monthly financial results, including departmental profit and loss statements and analysis of the results.
  • Preparation and posting of general ledger journals including prepayments, expense, and interest accruals, and assisting with payroll journals.
  • Several key financial controls include the preparation of monthly balance sheet reconciliations and substantiation of account balances as well as the maintenance of the Asset Register and the associated monthly depreciation postings.
  • Preparation of the annual financial reports and preparing and submitting financial information to the external auditors.
  • Monthly review of payroll and related employment expenses and will perform the role of backup to the payroll officer when they are on leave.
  • Preparation of annual draft tax reconciliations and lodgement of all relevant monthly, quarterly, and annual tax payments and reconciliations including GST/BAS and FBT.
  • Assistance with the preparation of the annual budget and the reporting thereon. This includes the preparation of annual depreciation and interest budgets.
  • Assistance in regular periodic re-forecasting exercises throughout the financial year.

About You

You are a bright enthusiastic recent graduate with a tertiary qualification in accounting with a keen desire to partake in further study to achieve a professional accounting qualification such as CA/CPA.

You will be a performance-orientated individual with sophisticated communication skills, strong attention to detail, and a proactive, service-orientated approach to working.
